Scottish Seaside Saunas has been working with local Felt Maker Trish O'Meara from Wormit Woolies to make a very limited edition range sauna hats made from wool from Fife sheep available on our websites. These hats have proven popular and are now all SOLD OUT.

We will not be making any more hats available to buy. However, we will be giving you to opportunity to learn how to learn the ancient art of wet felting and create your very own one of kind felted sauna hat.

Wet felting is the first known form of textile making, and has been recognized as a heritage craft in the UK since the 1100's.  There will be many different colours of wool etc. for you to choose from, to get creative and personal with your hat making.

Following the workshop certified sauna masters Judith and Elise, will lead you in a short class in how to make your own birch sauna-whisk.

You will, then, be able to try out your newly created hat and whisk, in our St. Andrews Seaside Sauna.

Wearing a wool hat in a sauna acts as an insulator to keep your head cool, allowing for longer, more comfortable and safer sessions.

All materials to create your hat and whisk, will be provided but each participant will need to bring along a small towel for rolling your felt in.

This is an approximate 2 hour workshop followed by a 30 minute birch whisk making session and a 1 hour sauna session, ending at 17.30.

FAQs

Do I need any experience to join?

No experience needed for any of our events - yoga workshops, hat-making or strength training. We keep things welcoming and scalable, so whether you're a complete beginner or have been at this for years, you'll find your own pace.

What should I bring?

For the yoga workshops, just bring yourself and a mat if you have one — we've a few spares if not. For the hat and whisk-making workshop, bring a small towel for rolling your felt in. For strength training, wear something you can move in and bring a water bottle. Everyone's welcome to bring swimwear and a towel too, in case you fancy a dip before or after.

What happens if the weather's bad?

Our sessions run rain or shine - a bit of Scottish weather has never stopped a good workout or sauna session. If conditions become unsafe, we'll be in touch directly to reschedule or refund.

Can I book if a session shows as sold out?

Spaces are limited to keep these sessions personal, so once they're gone, they're gone. Join our mailing list to hear first when new dates are released.

Where do the sessions take place?

It depends on the event. Full details are on each booking widget above and your confirmation email.

Can I come along on my own, or bring a friend?

Come solo or bring a friend - most people arrive not knowing anyone and leave having made a few new ones. That's rather the point.
