Yoga

Outdoor yoga by the sea at Elie, taught by Judith Dunlop - pair a class with your sauna session.

Two ancient practices, Together

Before Judith opened Elie Seaside Sauna, she was a yoga teacher and swimmer. Connecting with nature and tuning in to what your senses tell you flows straight into a sauna session — that's why we teach them side by side. Yoga and sauna share the same root instinct: get out of your head, and into your body. It's one of the questions people ask us most — can I do yoga before my sauna? We pair the two wherever we can, a class that leaves you warmed up and centred, followed by a session that finishes the job.

A group of adults practise yoga outdoors on mats, performing a standing pose with arms extended, under natural daylight.

FAQs

Do I need yoga experience?

No - all classes and workshops are open to complete beginners as well as experienced yogis.

Can I book yoga and sauna together?

Classes are timed to finish just before a sauna session, so the two work well back-to-back. They're booked and paid for separately though, and your sauna place isn't guaranteed just because you've booked the class.

What should I bring?

Just yourself and a mat, if you have one - we usually have spares for anyone who doesn't.

If you've booked a sauna session afterwards, bring a towel, your swimwear (or wear it under your yoga clothes), and a water bottle to top up between the heat and any dips in the sea.

What should I wear?

Something comfortable you can stretch and move in - leggings or loose layers work well, since mornings by the sea can be cool before your body warms up. You'll be practising barefoot on the mat. If you're combining your class with a sauna session afterwards, it's worth wearing your swimwear underneath so you can go straight in.
